The children who come to Maker Faire are energetic, sometimes even frantic, and almost always curious. They will try anything, they just grab it and see what it does. I built this machine for them, for fun, and because I happened to have been toting around a 50 lb. hand-cranked forge blower for the last six years. The result is a pseudo-randomized calliope operated by said blower. The blower itself supplies the air to the six slide whistles held by the machine's frame, while the blower's crank powers three distinctly-timed axles, which in turn power three see-saw levers, which push and pull the slide whistle pistons and make a wonderful cacophony of sound. |
